IC PERMISSIONS

Physical Violence: I'm fairly comfortable with writing it but would like to keep it organized, so please pm me first and we can discuss things.

Mental Information: David was initially diagnosed with schizophrenia sometime prior to season one, while we later learn that he isn't crazy so much as he's a very powerful telepath, his mental landscape is probably still a bit of a disaster zone ㅡ especially following the excising of the Shadow King from his mind. This being said, David's mind is apparently very strong and might offer some resistance to invasion by other telepaths.

Physical Affection: ICly and OOCly he should be fine with it. David's a very physically affectionate and tactile person, though he's also quite mindful of the boundaries others might have about this. His canon love interest is unable to touch people and, barring one rather unfortunate incident where he was unaware of just the extent of how bad of an idea this was, has been able to respect this.

IC Triggers: Telepathy, telepaths and mind-control in general is a big red button. David has spend most of his life under the influence of a psychic parasite and therefore is going to be at best skeptical of anyone who is able to influence the thoughts and feelings of others, and at worst will react incredibly negatively to anyone trying to do this, with or without consent. Threats to his family and loved ones. He also struggles a bit with mental health as a subject in that, while he's been told he's not actually ill, he is unable to entirely believe it just yet.

Relationships: I'm open to all sorts of relationships. Understandably anything romantic is going to be more tricky since he has a girlfriend, and one he cares for deeply, but I'm not adverse to seeing how things do develop. Friends, mentors, even just nodding acquaintances are also more than welcome.

Are you interested in participating in the game's smut opt-ins? Possibly.

If yes, please state your preferences: Canonically David's only shown interest in women so far but I'd be open to M/M under the right circumstances. 18+ please. He's not interested in non-humans at present.

Character Age: While we're never explicitly given David's age, he was born sometime in the eighties, which places somewhere in his early to mid-thirties.

Personality: In many respects David could be considered the ultimate victim of circumstance: born a mutant with powerful psychic abilities, David falls prey to an entity that we later learn is known as The Shadow King. We will also learn that at some point in time, this being encountered David’s biological father—who, while it hasn’t been revealed in the show yet, is implied, at least in the comics, to be none other than Charles Xavier—and that the two battled on the Astral Plane, where the Shadow King was driven back and weakened. This is important, as much of who David will later become stems from this moment, both the battle itself and the later decision to remove him from his biological family's care, causing ripples that continue to affect him well into the present. For while David’s father hid him in the hopes of keeping him safe, it was already too late. The Shadow King had already found David, and tucked itself away in the young child’s mind, where it slowly recovered and grew strong again.

Now, playing host to something like that is bound to have a profound and damaging effect on a person. In David’s case, it manifested slowly, first with hearing voices and then with the gradual inability to separate delusion from reality. Initially, David could function, more or less—likely self-medicating with drugs—but eventually suffered a severe mental break, attempting to take his own life, and ultimately landing him in Clockworks Psychiatric Hospital.

Despite his having been institutionalized for some time, we find David in high spirits—even if he still holds onto the hope of one day being well enough to return home, to return to a normal life. Because David wants desperately to be normal. To be safe to be around. He recognizes that he’s got a way to go, is more than willing to put in the work, but he’s also bored out of his mind and in his own words “Something needs to happen soon.”

Meeting Syd changes everything.

Deep down, David has always suffered a tremendous sense of alienation. Something that he blames primarily on his illness, only to later learn that while he’s got some serious problems, this isn’t one of them. This revelation brings with it a lot of feelings: betrayal and confusion at his adopted family, who knew what he was and never told him, relief that he’s not ill (at least not in the way he had always believed) and a sort of giddy enthusiasm—because not only does he have abilities but he’s the kind of powerful that makes him a true force to be reckoned with. Someone that doesn’t have to feel afraid, doesn’t have to feel lesser. He feels invincible and he likes it.

Except that he isn’t invincible. He’s powerful, sure, but he’s untrained and largely unrestrained. Drugs and the Shadow King kept much of his power reined in. It’s that lack of restraint that leads David to unintentionally landing himself in the Astral Plane—a mixed blessing of sorts as it is there he meets Oliver Bird, a fellow psychic, who educates him a little about what he is and what this might mean for the future. He is deeply flawed, and more than a little traumatized, but is nonetheless determined to work his way through it.

Despite his flaws, David will sacrifice himself to protect his family and loved ones, without hesitation, even if it means making a literal deal with the Devil. We see evidence of this when he surrenders himself to Lenny’s control upon learning of Amy’s capture by Division 3.

However, if he were confronted with what he had done while under Lenny’s influence he would be guilt-stricken and remorseful. He takes no enjoyment in suffering and is quick to reach out to his enemies and try to broker peace, even after they had threatened to kill him and his loved ones on several occasions—more than enough of a reason for him to have been hostile given the circumstances.

Powers/Abilities: David is an incredibly powerful mutant who's collective abilities are tantamount to reality bending. For obvious reasons this is not going to be practical in-game and (as mentioned in the relevant section) I fully expect a lot of nerfing to happen. However, below is his laughably overpowered power set.

↠ TELEPATHY. David is an incredibly powerful telepath and it's believed that many of his related abilities stem from this. He is shown to be able to read multiple minds at once.

↠ TELEKINESIS. Following on from the telepathy, David has shown himself to be able to move, or otherwise exert force on, objects with his mind — including himself.

↠ PROJECTION AND TELEPORTATION. David was shown to be able to transport himself, objects and others from one place to another. He is also able to manifest himself on the Astral Plane.

↠ CLAIRVOYANCE. In other words "remote viewing". David is occasionally able to view events happening elsewhere as though he were there. He does not seem to have full control of this ability and it is largely dependent on his level of concentration.

↠ MATTER MANIPULATION. David is able to create, manipulate and destroy matter at will. Another power he doesn't have any control of. It was either done while under the influence of someone else (when Syd was in control of his body, she made the doors in Clockwork's disappear, trapping their occupants inside; when Lenny was in control of his body she was able to disintegrate several armed gunmen, leaving only smouldering clothing behind) or subconsciously. Lenny herself is a good example of the extent of his power as David himself managed to manifest her (a delusion) onto the physical plane, enabling her to interact with others.

↠ SOUND DAMPENING. David was able to totally remove noise from his chidlhood home during the confrontation with Lenny and Division 3, leaving the room entirely silent.

↠ CHROMOKINESIS. During the confrontation, upon being fired on, David was able to temporarily freeze time. This is another ability that he shows little to no conscious control of.

Power Nerfs (if applicable): So, David's a mutant that's described in such terms as "a world-breaker" and "one of the most powerful mutants ever encountered" but people in his canon. Which, while great on paper, can be a headache both ICLY and OOCLY. Which is why I definitely understand and have no problem with any nerfing you deem necessary for his laughably over-the-top skill-set.

If possible the abilities I would like to keep are his telepathy and telekinesis, as they are the ones he has the greatest control over currently, and possibly a greatly reduced form of his teleportation. The reason I would like to keep these three is because they appear to be the three abilities that manifested earliest for him—it's debatable which came first, though Amy recalls how she believed her home to be haunted, with things moving around without being touched and David disappearing and reappearing in places over the course of their shared childhood.

Regardless of what you decide, he'll have an opt-in for his powers as well as an opt-out for his canon in general. Legion deals with a number of sensitive topics and would like to give players the option to avoid them if they feel it necessary.
